KUALA LUMPUR – Denmark conquered their first group stage match against Malaysia in 2022 Uber Cup held in Impact Arena, Bangkok today.
The Scandinavian country earned their winning point through women’s singles shuttler Line Kjærsfeldt as she easily outperformed Mysha Mohd Khairul 21-12, 21-9 in a quick fashion of 33 minutes.
Denmark gained their first point after singles player Mia Blichfeldt beat S. Kisona in straight sets 21-14, 21-15 within 35 minutes.
This was not their first encounter as the 24-year-old Danish had also beaten Kisona in the 2020 Thomas and Uber Cup in Aarhus, Denmark in a straightforward 21-11, 21-7.
Malaysia then successfully tied the score 1-1 through doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah when they went up against Maiken Fruergaard-Sara Thygesen, 21-19, 21-19.
It was a very close match, but the Malaysian pair successfully took down the Danes within 42 minutes.
Former BWF World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei then gifted the country its second point by defeating Line Christophersen in a rubber set 21-12, 11-21, 21-5.
Jin Wei, who previously defeated the Dane in the 2018 World Junior Championship, proved that she could make a comeback by finishing the match within 42 minutes.
Nevertheless, Teoh Mei Xing-Anna Cheong tried to maintain Malaysia’s lead in the fourth match but failed as Danish pair Alexandra Bøje-Amalie Magelund took control of the game in a straight set 21-14, 21-10, hence tying their score with Malaysia.
In their second group stage match, Malaysia will face Thailand tomorrow at 3pm, while the men’s team will play their first group stage match against England tomorrow at 10am.– The Vibes, May 8, 2022
