KUALA LUMPUR – Great news for Malaysian badminton fans as tickets for this year’s Petronas Malaysia Open will go on sale from Thursday (May 26) onwards.
The tournament will take place at Axiata Arena from June 28 to July 3 after a two-year hiatus.
The tickets will be priced between RM 25 to RM 500. Fans can purchase tickets here from 2pm onwards, with an early bird promotion available for the first 2,000 tickets sold.
In a statement, Badminton Association of Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh said the tournament is one of the five prestigious Super Series Badminton Premier Tournaments under the Badminton World Federation and will carry total prize money of US$675,000 (RM 2,963,588).
“The tournament this year will be known as the 2022 Petronas Malaysia Open and we are delighted to have a global brand with us and thank them for their support,” he said.
Since the Petronas Malaysia Open is held after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19, an outdoor carnival “Malaysia Festival” will be held daily from 3pm to 10pm during the period of the tournament.
The carnival will feature a special opening gambit and drone performance on the final day.
The carnival will focus on Malaysian culture, tourism, and sports as the main pillars of the festival and will be curated in line with what Malaysians like and are proud of.
Activities such as air badminton, food street with pop up stores, as well as stage performances showcasing cultural presentation and local artists will also be happening during the festival.
In the last edition of the Malaysian Open in 2019, retired shuttler Lin Dan emerged champion while Tai Tzu Ying won the women’s singles. – The Vibes, May 24, 2022
