KUALA LUMPUR – Head coach of the national U-23 football team Brad Maloney was released by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on mutual agreement today.
The decision was reached when Maloney attended the FAM National Team Management Committee meeting, which was chaired by FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin at Wisma FAM.
Maloney, 50, presented the performance report of his team at two recent tournaments, namely the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam in May, and the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan last month.
The Australian thanked FAM for giving him the opportunity and allowing him eight years of service since 2014 which helped him improve his coaching career.
He started in Malaysia as the national U-23 assistant coach to Datuk Ong Kim Swee until he was appointed head coach for the U-10 squad, before taking charge of the U-23 team in 2019.
“Good luck to Maloney in continuing his coaching career and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
“His leadership and many contributions during the eight years with FAM will always be remembered,” said FAM general secretary Mohd Saifuddin Abu Bakar.
This year, the national U-23 team have only won two of their 11 matches. – The Vibes, July 13, 2022
