KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Darul Ta’zim is set to replace Benjamin Mora with another foreign coach after the Mexican bid farewell after a successful stint.

According to a source close to the Southern Tigers, it is not decided who will replace Mora, but it is definitely a foreigner.

The new coach could likely be a South American as speculations point to someone of Argentinian nationality.

This latest update has squashed rumours of former national coach Tan Cheng Hoe taking over the position.

“It will be a foreigner coming from South America, but who is yet to be known. The club could announce their new coach in a couple of days.

“Mora quit to go back to Mexico and is not going to Japan, as what many in the industry are saying.

“He is going back for personal reasons as the coach’s relationship with the club is still good.

“JDT gave Mora a proper send-off, if you saw their social media post,” said the source

In a social media post, the club said that Mora had requested that JDT allow him to return to Mexico due to unavoidable personal matters.

“JDT respects the request and will always leave the door open for a return in the future.

“Thank you, Benjamin. You’ll forever be part of the JDT Family. See you again,” the post said.

Mora has been the most successful JDT coach with four Malaysian Super League titles, four Charity Cups, and one Malaysian Cup. Recently, he led the champions to the AFC Champions League knockout rounds for the first time in the history of the club.

Mora has taken charge of 148 games over two stints as JDT coach since 2017, winning 102 games. – The Vibes, July 27, 2022
