Saifuddin resigns as FAM secretary-general

KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) accepted the decision of its secretary-general Mohd Saifuddin Abu Bakar to leave the national football governing body.

FAM in a statement said the decision was made at the second FAM executive committee meeting for the 2021-2025 term held today.

“FAM records its thanks for his (Saifuddin) service with the association.

“They include the organising of the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification at the National Stadium in June in which Harimau Malaya qualified for the tournament finals,” according to the statement.

This morning, Bernama reported that Mohd Saifuddin has confirmed submitting his resignation letter last week, as he would be resuming his career at the international level.

Saifuddin joined FAM from 1993 to 2004 as FAM Competition Department head apart from becoming assistant secretary-general from 2007 to 2009.

The former Oman Professional League Technical consultant was appointed FAM secretary-general at the end of August last year following the departure of Stuart Ramalingam, who was appointed Malaysia Football League chief executive officer.

Saifuddin is also a match commissioner of the International Federation of Association Football and Asia Football Confederation. – Bernama, August 23, 2022
