IPOH – Perak FC have set their sights on developing young talent after forging a collaboration with top Bundesliga club Vfl Wolfsburg.
Perak FC chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi said the cooperation with the German club was sealed through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today.
He said the collaboration, which will run until December 2023, would see the German club send their coaches and players here during preseason, in addition to supporting Perak FC’s training camps.
“Wolfsburg are a successful global brand name and there are many things we can learn from this collaboration, especially as it involves grassroots development that we emphasise on… that’s the main thing.
“We also want to take inspiration from the various fields involving technical and governance issues, including in the field of business as well as sharing of information involving sponsorships,” he said when met after the MoU signing ceremony here today.
Meanwhile, VfL Wolfsburg senior vice-president of sales Andreas Kruse said the partnership would be good for the future of both clubs as well as for the development of football.
“We chose Perak FC because they are as ambitious as we are, with a lot of things in common, particularly in developing football from the grassroots level,” he said, adding that Perak FC are the first club in Southeast Asia to have forged cooperation with them.
Wolfsburg, who are currently 13th in the highly competitive top tier of the German football league, have won the Bundesliga once in their history, in the 2008-2009 season, and finished as runners-up In 2014-2015. – Bernama, October 12, 2022
