KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s blue-eyed badminton boy Lee Zii Jia has accepted Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) offer to train at their academy, Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM).

In a statement issued through the official Team LZJ Instagram page, the world number two said the decision was made as part of his preparation for next season.

“I am already at work to prepare for next season, including humbly accepting BAM’s invitation for independents to spar at Akademi Badminton Malaysia.

“The training environment and quality at ABM remains the best in the country and this opportunity will surely benefit all parties, especially for future team events,” he said.

Two weeks ago, BAM announced that independent shuttlers are allowed to attend weekly match-play sessions at the academy in Bukit Kiara here.

They said they feel joint sessions between the senior squad and pro shuttlers can provide mutual benefits to the proactive engines of the national team.

To improve his skills on court, the Asian champion also said he looks forward to further his training in Taiwan on December 19-25 with sponsor Victor, where he will also be training with some of the local players.

“In all honesty, the year 2022 is not up to my satisfaction, even though I end the year as world No 2.

“I have to keep on improving and continue to prove my worth.”

This comes after a disappointing defeat at the Australian Open, which cost him his qualification for the BWF World Tour Finals. – The Vibes, December 4, 2022
