KUALA LUMPUR – National top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah wishes to remain grounded despite reaching their career-high world number six ranking this week.

According to the Badminton World Federation ranking, the duo ascended three spots from number nine.

The French Open champions said they were thrilled about their position, but they insist on remaining grounded as their ranking could change depending on their performance from one tournament to another.

“We have our targets, and this is one of them,” said Thinaah.

“Climbing up the ranking is a good motivation to do better, but it is just a number.

“Let this be our reminder to give our best.”

Pearly echoed Thinaah and admitted that their success is a boost of confidence to face the upcoming Malaysia Open that will take place on January 10 to 15 at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.

“It is a good boost to our confidence. We have been training hard and will give our best at the Malaysia Open,” said Pearly.

Pearly-Thinaah are seeded eighth in the inaugural Super 1000 tournament.

They are drawn against Bulgaria’s Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva, who are ranked 14th in the world.

This would be their second meeting after the Malaysian favourites defeated the Stoeva sisters at the Super 300 Swiss Open finals. – The Vibes, January 7, 2022
