KUALA LUMPUR – Negri Sembilan successfully defended the men’s and women’s titles in the Maba-MJ Health Agong’s Cup National Basketball Championships yesterday.

Negri Sembilan defeated Johor 87-73 in the finals at the Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) here.

This is the state’s sixth consecutive title, following their victories in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.

Negri captain Wong Yi Hou was also named most valuable player after netting 30 points in the final.

“I am grateful to team owner, Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock for all his guidance and support. Though it is our sixth title, we did not take things for granted and gave it our best,” he said.

Earlier, Negri Sembilan also bagged the Agong’s Cup title in the women’s category after they downed Selangor 81-49 in their final round-robin match.

Both Negri’s men’s and women’s squads took home RM18,000 in prize money each. – The Vibes, November 6, 2023
