KUALA LUMPUR – Form 5 students were this morning met with strict health and safety standard operating procedures at school, as they return to the classroom for the first time in months.

Thousands of students are preparing to sit the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, which have been much delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Even as the Education Ministry has instructed them back to school today, Malaysia continues to record surging coronavirus infections, with 3,631 registered yesterday alone.

The ministry has moved the date for SPM, as well as the Sijil Vokasional Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia exams, to February 22.

The Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia exams, meanwhile, will be held on March 8.

The SPM trial exams scheduled to start this week have been cancelled due to the virus crisis.
