A TRAGIC and horrifying crime unfolded on Sunday morning when a woman was set on fire aboard a stationary F train at Brooklyn’s Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station, New York.
A man has since been arrested for the crime described as “senseless”, with authorities calling it one of the most brutal acts a person could commit against another.
The appalling incident took place on Sunday morning around 7:30 am as the suspect and the victim were aboard an F train heading to the Stillwell Avenue station in Brooklyn.
The New York Police Department said the victim, who has not been identified, was aboard a stationary F train at the station when an unknown man calmly approached her and used a lighter to set her clothes on fire.
Police said there was no interaction before the attack and they did not believe the two people knew each other.
The man got off the car as police officers on patrol in the station rushed to the blaze.
Transit police apprehended the suspect after receiving a report from three high school students who had recognised the man. They had seen images of the suspect taken from surveillance and police body cam video and widely distributed by police. - December 23, 2024
