100% tariff to be levied on movies produced outside U.S.
There could "very well be” trade deals with China - May 5, 2025

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on all movies produced outside the United States.

Reuters reported Trump saying that he was authorising the U.S. Trade Representative to process the institution of the tariff because the United States' movie industry is dying "a very fast death" due to other countries offering incentives to attract filmmaker's and studios.

"This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda!"

Fair-trade deal with China

Meanwhile, aboard Air Force One, Trump said the U.S. was meeting with many countries, including China, on trade deals, and his main priority with China was to secure a fair-trade deal.

Trump told reporters he had no plans to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week, but U.S. officials were speaking with Chinese officials about different things.

Asked if any trade agreements would be announced this week, Trump said that could "very well be" but gave no details. - May 5, 2025
