A MALAYSIAN man has died after reportedly falling from a hotel in the resort island of Phuket, Thailand, in the early hours of Friday.
According to a statement from Thai police, the 25-year-old, originally from Selangor, had arrived in Thailand on 8 May as part of a tour group comprising more than 20 Malaysian travellers.
“The victim had been assigned to share a room with three friends. At around 1 a.m. on Friday (local time), police received a report from hotel staff that a tourist had fallen from the building,” the report said on Friday.
The man was confirmed dead at a hospital in Patong district, Phuket province, at 1.30 a.m., due to severe head injuries sustained in the fall, Thai police added.
When contacted, the Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla confirmed the incident and said the victim’s remains were claimed by his family on Saturday morning.
“The consulate assisted in transferring the remains from Patong district to Sadao province by road up to the Bukit Kayu Hitam border. The victim’s family is scheduled to transport the body to Sungai Buloh for funeral arrangements,” the consulate said.
The consulate also facilitated the necessary burial permits for Malaysia. - May 10, 2025
