VIETNAM has made its debut in the top 10 of the World AI Index 2025, ranking sixth out of 40 countries for artificial intelligence awareness and readiness, according to a report by the Worldwide Independent Network of Market Research (WIN).
The rankings, released jointly by WIN and Bernama–Vietnam News Agency (VNA), are based on public survey data across seven key indicators: AI usage, trust, acceptance, efficiency, usability, comfort, and interest.
Vietnam achieved a composite score of 59.2 out of 100, surpassing several advanced economies and signalling growing optimism and openness towards AI among urban Vietnamese.
The survey, conducted by Indochina Research between December 2024 and January 2025, covered 900 respondents from four major cities.
Vietnam ranked third globally in AI trust, scoring 65.6 points, and fifth in acceptance with 71.6 points. Scores in comfort and perceived efficiency also exceeded global averages, suggesting rising confidence in the technology.
However, despite the favourable perception, actual usage of AI remains limited. Vietnam ranked 17th in AI usage with a score of 37.6. While 60 per cent of city residents reported having tried AI tools, only 3 per cent said they use such technologies daily.
The report noted that concern about AI-related misinformation, such as deepfakes, was relatively low among Vietnamese respondents, with only 36 per cent expressing apprehension — the least cited among all AI-related concerns.
“Despite Vietnam’s high ranking, a large segment of the population still lacks access to AI, presenting opportunities to scale up usage and innovation,” the report stated.
To strengthen its AI ecosystem, the report recommends broadening access to non-urban and older populations, increasing public education on AI’s benefits, and fostering trust through transparent and secure AI systems. - July 22, 2025
