THE Government has pledged an additional RM105 million (USD25 million) in humanitarian aid and reconstruction support for Gaza, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to the Palestinian cause, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a high-level ministerial meeting in support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Mohamad said the new pledge follows more than RM70 million (USD17 million) in aid already disbursed by Malaysia since 2024.
“The assistance was channelled through the Palestinian Humanitarian Trust Fund,” he noted, adding that the government remains determined to assist both in emergency relief and long-term reconstruction efforts.
“Malaysia stands ready to work with the United Nations and like-minded nations to collectively improve the delivery of humanitarian assistance and support future rebuilding of Gaza,” Bernma cited him telling the delegates.
The minister expressed Malaysia’s appreciation for UNRWA’s ongoing work in delivering aid and protection to Palestinian refugees across Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
“UNRWA remains a lifeline for Palestinian refugees,” he said. “Malaysia will continue to support its mandate to provide assistance and protection to these vulnerable communities.”
Mohamad also called on fellow UN member states to fulfil their responsibilities by backing UNRWA and ensuring that the flow of life-saving aid into Gaza remains uninterrupted.
“Malaysia will continue working with partners such as Jordan, Egypt, and relevant non-governmental organisations to support this critical humanitarian mission,” he added. - September 26, 2025
