A HUMANITARIAN flotilla sailing under the Global Sumud banner is now fewer than 400 nautical miles from the Gaza coastline and is expected to arrive as early as 30 September or 1 October, depending on sea conditions.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the coalition behind the mission confirmed the convoy's steady progress towards the besieged Palestinian enclave. “We are nearing Gaza,” the group posted, adding that the only remaining obstacle between the flotilla and its destination is the open sea.
Wael Naouar, spokesperson for the Maghreb fleet, said: “We expect to reach Gaza either on the 30th of September or the 1st of October, weather permitting.”
The Global Sumud Flotilla (FSG), comprising approximately 50 vessels, departed earlier this month with the stated aim of delivering medical supplies to Gaza and challenging Israel’s naval blockade.
Footage shared by activists on X shows a Greek naval vessel withdrawing after escorting the convoy through international waters, while Italian and Spanish naval forces reportedly remain on hand to provide protection.
Since 2 March, Israel has maintained a complete closure of land crossings into Gaza, severely restricting humanitarian access and contributing to what aid agencies describe as a deepening famine crisis in the enclave. - September 29, 2025
