PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded a full state welcome at Kenya’s State House, the official residence of President William Samoei Ruto, as part of his ongoing official visit to East Africa.
Following the ceremonial reception, the two leaders held bilateral talks to discuss strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
Upon conclusion of the meeting, they witnessed the signing of several memoranda of understanding and cooperation documents, including agreements on tourism and collaboration between the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Nairobi City Council.
Prime Minister Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia’s Finance Minister, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address and officially open the Malaysia-Africa Higher Education Forum, as well as the Malaysia-Kenya High-Level Business Forum.
He is accompanied by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, senior Malaysian officials, and a business delegation.
Kenya, situated in East Africa, shares borders with South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, Tanzania to the southwest, and Lake Victoria and Uganda to the west.
In 2024, Kenya became Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in Africa, with total bilateral trade reaching RM5.7 billion, representing a 1.2 per cent increase from RM5.51 billion the previous year.
Prime Minister Anwar is expected to depart Nairobi later today, concluding his visits to three African nations, which have focused on deepening economic, educational, and diplomatic ties between Malaysia and the continent. - November 24, 2025
