THAILAND’S Election Commission has confirmed that the country’s next general election will take place on 8 February 2026, with advance voting scheduled for 1 February.

The announcement follows the formal dissolution of parliament by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who issued the decision through the Royal Gazette, declaring that the House of Representatives had been dissolved to pave the way for a new election.

The decree to dissolve parliament was granted royal assent by Thailand’s monarch, King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The move came earlier than many observers had expected and coincided with renewed clashes along the Thailand–Cambodia border, adding a regional security dimension to the political transition.

With parliament dissolved, the country now enters an election period that will determine the composition of the next government, as political parties prepare to campaign ahead of polling day early next year. - December 15, 2025
