A CHINESE national was wounded on Monday morning when artillery fire from Thai military forces struck residential zones in Cambodia’s Battambang province, according to a press release from the Cambodian Ministry of Interior.

Xinhua, on Tuesday, cited that the statement confirmed that the shelling destroyed one civilian house entirely and caused injuries to a Chinese citizen living in the area.

“This incident resulted in one civilian house being completely destroyed and one Chinese national being injured,” the release said.

The clash is part of the ongoing escalation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, which has intensified since December 7, with both nations accusing each other of initiating hostilities.

The incident underscores the continuing volatility of the border region, raising concerns for the safety of civilians and foreign nationals residing near the frontier.

Cambodian authorities have yet to provide further details on the condition of the injured citizen or the response measures being implemented to protect local communities.

Tensions along the border have prompted international attention, with calls for restraint and dialogue to prevent further civilian casualties and property damage. - December 23, 2025
