UNITED STATES President Donald Trump used the occasion of Christmas Eve to deliver holiday greetings while simultaneously launching a sharp attack on opposition Democrats, branding them “radical left scum” in a message that mixed seasonal goodwill with political provocation.

AFP cited today that from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump marked the day before Christmas by engaging in traditional festivities, including taking part in NORAD Santa Tracker calls and sending greetings to American troops stationed around the world.

However, the conciliatory tone did not extend to his political rivals.

“Merry Christmas to all, including the Radical Left Scum that is doing everything possible to destroy our Country, but are failing badly,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

In the same post, he defended his administration’s record and policy direction. “We no longer have Open Borders, Men in Women’s Sports, Transgender for Everyone, or Weak Law Enforcement. What we do have is a Record Stock Market and 401K’s, Lowest Crime numbers in decades, No Inflation, and yesterday, a 4.3 GDP, two points better than expected,” he said.

Trump’s remarks came a day after the Commerce Department reported that the US economy grew by 4.3 per cent in the third quarter, the fastest pace in two years. The figures were seized upon by the president as evidence of economic strength, amid ongoing criticism from Democrats over his handling of the cost of living.

However, the same report showed that the price index for domestic purchases rose by 3.4 per cent, a notable increase from the 2.0 per cent recorded in the second quarter, highlighting persistent inflationary pressures.

The president’s Christmas Eve broadside followed a week of renewed political controversy, with Democrats criticising the Justice Department over what they described as the slow release and heavy redaction of records linked to the investigation of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was once acquainted with Trump.

Alongside his domestic message, Trump also extended Christmas greetings to US military personnel overseas, including those involved in a major naval deployment in the Caribbean, where Washington has stepped up pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to step down from office. - December 25, 2025
