NEW York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency on Friday as Winter Storm Devin approaches, threatening to blanket large areas with heavy snow and create dangerous conditions.

Reuters reported today that the announcement comes as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning Friday afternoon, forecasting that Devin could make travel hazardous from the Great Lakes region to the Mid-Atlantic and northern and southern New England from Friday through Saturday morning.

According to the NWS, several regions are expected to receive between five and eight inches of snow, equivalent to 12.7 to 20 centimetres.

Meanwhile, western Pennsylvania is bracing for an ice storm, which could heighten the risk of road accidents and cause power outages.

Authorities are urging residents to restrict movement, heed weather advisories, and prepare for potential disruptions to public services. - December 27, 2025
