THE death toll from Israel’s ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip has risen to 71,409 Palestinians, with 171,304 others injured since October 2023, according to local medical sources.

WAFA News Agency cited health authorities saying on Friday that at least 14 people were killed and 17 wounded in Israeli attacks over the past 24 hours alone, as hostilities continued across the enclave.

They added that many victims remain trapped beneath rubble or lying in streets, as medical and civil defence teams are still unable to reach several affected areas.

Officials noted that the casualty figures could rise further due to the scale of destruction and restricted access to bombardment sites.

Since the ceasefire announced on October 11, 2023, Gaza has recorded 439 deaths and 1,223 injuries, health officials said.

Rescue teams have so far recovered 688 bodies during post-ceasefire operations, underscoring the extent of devastation caused by months of sustained bombardment.

Medical sources warned that Gaza’s already strained health system continues to face immense pressure amid shortages of equipment, fuel and personnel, as recovery and rescue efforts remain hampered by ongoing security risks and infrastructure damage. - January 10, 2026
