A MAN’S corpse was partially devoured by his three pit bulls after he collapsed and died inside his flat.
The horror find came to light when Salvatore Allegrucci's worried niece – known locally as Tore – sounded the alarm after he stopped picking up the phone and wouldn't come to the door.
Salvatore was found lifeless and partially eaten on the floor of his apartment in Gualdo Tadino, Italy.
Upon arriving, police, firefighters, and veterinary services noticed a strong smell coming from inside.
They forced themselves inside before discovering the 52-year-old dead in the main room of the flat.
Salvatore's body was discovered in the main living area of his flat in Rigali village, part of Gualdo Tadino in Perugia province, central Italy, on February 15.
Based on initial police investigations, he is thought to have died from natural causes, potentially following a sudden medical episode.
Three pitbulls were found locked inside the apartment without food or water, and had partially eaten their owner's body. Officers reported that the dogs appeared agitated when emergency crews entered the home.
Investigators estimate he had been dead for at least four days before being found.
The local prosecutor has launched an investigation to probe the full circumstances and exact cause of the man’s death.
The three dogs were seized and taken to a veterinary service, where they will undergo health and judicial assessments. – February 20, 2026
