IRAN’S newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly “safe and well” despite earlier reports suggesting he was injured during air strikes by the United States and Israel, according to the son of President Masoud Pezeshkian.
“I heard news that Mr Mojtaba Khamenei was injured. I asked several contacts with connections to the matter, and they told me, thank God, he is safe and well,” AFP cited Yousef Pezeshkian saying on his Telegram channel.
State television had previously described Mojtaba Khamenei as a “veteran wounded in the Ramadan war,” though it did not provide details of the injuries sustained.
Mojtaba, the 56-year-old son and designated successor of the late Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, has not yet addressed the nation publicly or issued any written statement since being confirmed as Supreme Leader on Sunday.
The New York Times, citing three unnamed Iranian officials, reported today that Mojtaba Khamenei sustained several injuries, including to his leg, but remained conscious and is currently sheltering in a highly secure location with limited means of communication.
The confirmation of his safety comes amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which erupted following the strike that killed Ali Khamenei and has since involved multiple exchanges of air attacks across the region. - March 11, 2026
