CHINA has issued new policy guidance aimed at promoting the development of its e-commerce sector, while ensuring closer regulatory oversight and resilience amid shifting international conditions, according to a joint government statement.
The measures, led by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China in coordination with several other departments, underscore Beijing’s intention to strike what officials described as a balance between growth and supervision in the rapidly expanding digital marketplace Reuters reported on Monday.
The guidance called for striking a balance between promotion and regulation, integrating the digital and real economies, as well as forming pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce activities and setting up rules and standards.
Authorities indicated that the initiative would bring together efforts from multiple regulatory bodies, including cyberspace and market watchdogs, alongside ministries overseeing industry, agriculture and tourism, in a coordinated push to strengthen governance and innovation within the sector.
