THE stepson of Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon has been convicted and sentenced to four years in prison after a tribunal found him guilty of two counts of rape alongside several other criminal charges.

Marius Borg Hoiby, 29, received the custodial sentence following a definitive ruling by an Oslo court on Monday.

Hoiby became a prominent figure connected to the Scandinavian monarchy in 2001, when his mother, Mette-Marit, married the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon.

Reuters reported on Monday that the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the most severe allegations brought against him by prosecutors, including the charges of rape. Under Norwegian law, he retains the legal right to lodge an appeal against the judicial verdict. - June 15, 2026
