BRITAIN'S Bar Standards Board has imposed an immediate interim suspension on former International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, marking the latest development in disciplinary proceedings following allegations of sexual misconduct that he firmly denies.

The regulatory action comes after the International Criminal Court in The Hague suspended Khan from his role on 8 June while allegations against him remain under investigation.

In a statement, the Bar Standards Board said the interim suspension takes effect immediately and will be reviewed through its formal disciplinary process.

"Under the BSB's Enforcement Regulations, the interim suspension must now be considered by an Interim Suspension Panel at a hearing within the next four weeks," Reuters reported the board saying.

The regulator did not disclose further details regarding the allegations or the basis for imposing the interim measure.

Khan, 56, has consistently denied the sexual misconduct allegations made against him.

The interim suspension by the Bar Standards Board does not constitute a finding of misconduct or guilt. It is a regulatory measure pending consideration by an Interim Suspension Panel, which will determine whether the suspension should remain in force while disciplinary proceedings continue. - June 19, 2026
