KING Charles III has hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their two children in a private meeting at Highgrove House, marking a significant step towards repairing a fractured relationship that has persisted since the couple stepped away from royal duties and relocated to the United States six years ago.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, met the King and Queen Camilla at the monarch's country residence in Gloucestershire.

AP reported Harry returned to the United Kingdom earlier this week for several charity engagements, with much of the public attention focused on whether he would meet his father and whether Meghan and their children would accompany him.

The reunion comes after years of tension within the House of Windsor following Harry and Meghan's decision to leave royal life, move to California and pursue independent media ventures.

Relations deteriorated further after Harry's memoir "Spare" included detailed criticisms of the Royal Family, including allegations of internal conflicts, media disputes and strained relationships with senior royals.

Harry has previously expressed a desire to reconcile with his father, who is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

"I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has," Harry said in an interview with the BBC.

The meeting follows a brief encounter between Harry and King Charles last September, when the pair met for tea in London for the first time in more than a year.

The Sussex children, Archie and Lilibet, last met their grandfather during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. However, no photographs or details from Friday's private gathering are expected to be released.

The reunion also comes after Harry's unsuccessful legal challenge against the publisher of the Daily Mail over privacy claims, following several years of court battles involving the British media and his security arrangements.

While the meeting does not signal an immediate resolution to all tensions, it represents a cautious step towards rebuilding family ties after years of public disagreements and personal criticism. - July 12, 2026
