JAKARTA – Starting tomorrow, Indonesia will carry out the second phase of its Covid-19 vaccination programme targeting 38.5 million people, including senior citizens.
Others include educators, market traders, religious figures, elected representatives, government officials, soldiers, police personnel, security guards, firefighters, athletes and journalists, as well as workers in the hospitality, transportation and tourism sectors.
The first phase that began on January 13 focused on health workers, as well as the country’s top leadership, while senior citizens started receiving the Sinovac vaccine on February 8.
According to the Communications and Community Service Bureau, the second round of vaccinations is expected to be completed in May and involve more than 16.9 million workers and 21.5 million senior citizens.
Indonesia is aiming to vaccinate some 182 million citizens, with the exercise expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, according to data on Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management’s Twitter yesterday, 1,096,095 people have received the first jab for the two-dose vaccine while 482,685 have already received the second. – Bernama, February 16, 2021
