MEAUX (France) – Four people died when a light plane crashed east of Paris today, said the local fire service.

A Robin DR400 aircraft that took off from Beauvais, northwest of the capital, was found in a field near Saint-Pathus.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.

Information provided to AFP by the Lognes-Emerainville airfield suggested that it was a training flight.

The aircraft is “of French origin, limited by law to visual flights at altitudes of no more than 15,000 feet (4,572m)”, said an airfield source.

The plane crashed some 20km from France’s biggest airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle.

A search unit from the paramilitary gendarmerie police was dispatched to the scene, where the strong smell of kerosene filled the air, said the fire service. – AFP, April 18, 2021
