5.9-magnitude quake strikes off northwest Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR – A moderate 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit off the northwest coast of Sumatra in Indonesia at 7.58am today.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred 169km southwest of Nias, Indonesia, at a depth of 10km.

However, it said the quake does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia. – Bernama, April 20, 2021
