WASHINGTON – The Islamabad district magistrate’s office has requested that all private hotels in the Pakistani capital be closed for the next three weeks to accommodate thousands of Afghan evacuees.
“In view of the current situation across the border, thousands of people are evacuating from Afghanistan, and transit passengers of connecting flights are staying in Islamabad. To facilitate these passengers, it is requested that reservations at all hotels in the Islamabad capital territory be closed from tomorrow for 21 days at least,” it said in a statement obtained by Sputnik.
The statement said all vacant rooms should be at the disposal of city officials for the accommodation of Afghans until further notice.
At least two blasts hit Kabul airport and its vicinity yesterday, one of them near Baron Hotel.
Scores were killed, and hundreds injured.
After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan on August 15, many countries began evacuating their citizens, diplomats, and Afghans who worked for them. – Bernama, August 27, 2021
