QUITO – Ecuador will hire more than 12,000 doctors and medical workers to strengthen its public health system in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, said President Lenin Moreno yesterday.

He made the announcement on Twitter following talks with healthcare professionals, National Assembly representatives and Health Minister Juan Carlos Zevallos, reported the Xinhua news agency.

“Dialogue leads to responsible decisions,” Moreno tweeted.

Ecuador has so far registered 195,884 coronavirus infections with 9,129 deaths, according to official data. – Bernama, December 4, 2020
