JAKARTA – Indonesia’s State-Owned Enterprises Ministry aims to supply non-subsidised vaccines to 75 million people within the next eight or nine months, said its minister and chief executive of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and Economic Recovery Erick Thohir.

The Health Ministry said medical workers will be the first group to be vaccinated. Around 32 million people will be entitled to subsidised vaccines.

The ministry will also establish cooperation with private hospitals and clinics to implement the vaccination programme for those willing to pay for the vaccines.

Thohir said that Indonesia is also awaiting another 1.8 million doses of the vaccine in the next stage of shipment in January next year.

The Indonesian government has spent nearly US$45 million (RM182 million) to purchase vaccines from China this year.

In the first phase, 1.2 million doses of the vaccine will arrive in Indonesia for roll-out early next year. The next phase will see 1.8 million doses delivered in January. – Bernama, December 14, 2020
