THE Federal Government intends to ensure that the claim for 40 percent of Sabah's revenue is dealt with fairly and in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the government has taken note of the constitutional position and requirements on the matter, and is committed to fighting for the rights of the people of Sabah through transparent and comprehensive negotiations.

"There are several things that need to be examined to ensure that there are no irregularities or anything that is not in accordance with the constitution.

"The decision or judgment needs to be examined so that the entire mechanism is understood and that nothing undesirable happens," he said.

He said this to the media after attending the Community Day (HBK) and Youth Meeting Programme at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in Kampung Kopimpinan, Putatan, Sabah.

He added that a period of 180 days had been set to allow further discussions between the Federal and the Sabah Government to continue, to achieve a fair solution that does not conflict with the provisions of the law.

Nine of the 16 Sabah rights claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 have been implemented by the Federal Government within three years while the rest are currently under review.

He stressed that the Prime Minister himself had given an assurance that the Federal Government would continue to fight for justice for Sabah, but at the same time ensure that there were no irregularities or violations of constitutional principles. - November 8, 2025
