OUTSPOKEN Jelutong Member of Parliament RSN Rayer has called on the United States (US) Government to institute legal proceedings against PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
This, he said, would clear the world's biggest economy of any ill will in Malaysia over the allegations made by Abdul Hadi that US embassy officials allegedly offered assistance to the Islamist party to topple the Malaysian Government.
The legal proceedings would put to rest any doubt that Abdul Hadi's accusation is completely baseless, said Rayer in a statement.
"Abdul Hadi has made an extraordinarily serious allegation concerning national security, and it also involves a serious allegation against the US government."
The Marang Member of Parliament claimed that American representatives approached PAS leaders and offered assistance to bring down the then Malaysian Government years earlier.
He further claimed that the matter involved senior PAS leaders and that he himself subsequently met the US Ambassador, said Rayer.
"These are not casual allegations made over a cup of coffee. They concern the alleged interference of a foreign power in the constitutional and democratic affairs of a sovereign country."
The US Embassy has categorically rejected the allegation, stating that they have never sought to determine Malaysia's political leadership and that reports alleging otherwise are false, said Rayer, a senior lawyer.
So, there are only two possibilities, said Rayer.
"Either Abdul Hadi is telling the truth, or he is not."
"If Abdul Hadi is telling the truth, then the US has serious questions to answer about an alleged attempt to interfere in Malaysia's internal political affairs."
But if the US is telling the truth and Abdul Hadi has fabricated or falsely attributed such conduct to American officials, then Washington should not merely issue a diplomatic denial and walk away.
“It should consider taking appropriate legal action to defend its reputation and the integrity of its diplomatic representatives."
"This is a serious matter. A mere lip service diplomatic denial by the US is not enough. I urge the US government to sue Abdul Hadi if the extraordinary claims made by him are untrue. That is the only way."
Abdul Hadi allegedly made such assertions while convening the annual PAS muktamar (gathering) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, over the weekend. - September 7, 2026.
