KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened easier but rebounded thereafter today, attempting to extend yesterday’s gains, despite the flat overnight performance on Wall Street.

American stock markets staged a modest recovery after the US Federal Reserve signaled no changes to the current bond-buying programme.

At 9.10am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 2.02 points to 1,602.61 from yesterday’s close of 1,600.59.

The index opened 0.78 of-a-point easier at 1,599.81.

On the broader market, gainers led losers 240 to 207, while 373 counters were unchanged, 1,336 untraded and 25 others suspended.

Total volume stood at 520.28 million shares worth RM249.59 million.

Meanwhile, the ringgit eased against the US dollar today after the Federal Reserve indicated the nation’s economy will continue improve, boosting the greenback.

However, the positive vibe in the local bond market is cushioning the ringgit, and it traded mostly higher versus other major currencies at the opening bell today.

At 9.01am, the local unit stood at 4.1350/1410 against the US dollar from 4.1300/1330 at yesterday’s close. – Bernama, April 8, 2021
