KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit opened easier against the United States dollar today on lack of demand for the local note.

However, it is mostly higher versus other emerging currencies.

At 9am, the ringgit stood at 4.0990/1030 against the greenback from Friday’s close of 4.0870/0930.

Axi chief global markets strategist Stephen Innes said Asian currencies, including the ringgit, will be influenced by the US Federal Open Market Committee meeting and China’s weaker Purchasing Managers’ Index.

On the broader side, Asian currencies are expected to be subdued due to the United Kingdom bank holiday. – Bernama, May 3, 2021
