KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh will be the new Petronas chairman as post holder Tan Sri Ahmad Nizam Salleh has been appointed Pelaburan Hartanah Bhd (PHB) chair, said the Prime Minister’s Office.

In a statement today, it said both appointments are effective August 1.

“Bakke is a corporate member with extensive experience, and has served in various fields of economics and finance,” said PMO.

“It is hoped that his skills and experience, as well as the strong support from the existing board of directors and management team, will be able to see Petronas through this trying time and emerge stronger.”

Bakke has headed various government-linked companies, including Lembaga Tabung Haji, Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, Felda Holdings Bhd, Felda Global Venture Holdings Bhd, Sime Darby Bhd and Sime Darby Plantation Bhd.

In the statement, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin extended his gratitude to Nizam for his leadership and contributions throughout his three years as Petronas chair.

“In Nizam’s 37 years of experience in Petronas in various positions, he has led the company through the biggest challenges faced by the country and the world, including the uncertainty in global oil prices and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Petronas has retained a good international credit rating, and is the country’s top company listed in the Fortune Global 500.”

Nizam will remain as chairman of the KLCC Group of Companies, added the statement.

“His experience in Petronas and major property management in KLCC will breathe new life into the direction and management of PHB in increasing Bumiputera ownership of the country’s commercial properties.” – The Vibes, July 12, 2021
