KUALA LUMPUR – Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) 13th Auction of the Fourth Series Malaysian Banknotes with Special Serial Numbers on November 13-20 garnered RM2.7 million from banknote collectors bidding around the world.

In a statement today, auction organiser MNP Auctioneers (Central) Sdn Bhd said the event allowed bidders to place their bids online, before it culminated into a live event on the last day where they then bid against each other through the auctioneer’s command.

“The intensive bidding action was witnessed by a global audience on best2bid.com with all 267 banknotes ranging from RM1, RM5, RM10, RM50, to RM100 bid and sold at ten- to thirty-fold their starting amounts.

“The RM5 banknotes were among the favourites, whereby two banknotes that carried the first prefix of Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus were auctioned at 30 times their value at RM61,000 and RM68,000 respectively,” it said.

Managing director Stephen Soon said the bidding platform is delighted at the wonderful response for the auction, with bidders from as far as the United Kingdom and the United States registering their bids for the banknotes.

“Our team made the right choice by conducting our auction online through best2bid.com as we are able to reach out to more bidders, and allow them the convenience to participate and bid against others to secure the exclusive banknotes.”

He said the company will be organising more exclusive banknote auctions in the future, and working closely with BNM and the best2bid team to enhance the bidding experience for banknote enthusiasts as Malaysian banknotes are – and will always be – in demand. – Bernama, November 24, 2021
