Presented by Singapore Business Review, the awards programme recognises exceptional companies who are leading the digital journeys of their respective industries in Malaysia’s fast-growing economy.

KUALA LUMPUR – PETRA Group emerged as one of the frontrunners in the recently concluded Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards for its innovation and transformative technologies to build sustainable businesses that apply the concept of social capitalism.

Presented by Singapore Business Review, the awards programme recognises exceptional companies who are leading the digital journeys of their respective industries in Malaysia’s fast-growing economy.

PETRA Group Chairman and Chief Executive, Datuk (Dr) Vinod Sekhar, received the award on behalf of the global conglomerate, which focuses on sustainable solutions, green technologies, and innovation toward enhancing society.

“I am humbled and honoured to receive this award on behalf of my great family at PETRA Group,” said Vinod.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure PETRA continuously underscores that sustainability is not just about being green, environmentally friendly or having good governance, but it is about holistically using technological solutions for poverty eradication and uplifting society to achieve sustainable wealth creation.”

“This is a validation that businesses can and should be run on the concept of Social Capitalism, to be profitable while also using some of these profits to uplift stakeholders, communities as well as protect the environment sustainably for the betterment of all.”

He added that the conglomerate’s infrastructure and manufacturing businesses, including PETRA Eco-Build, Green Rubber, PETRA Mobilia and PETRA Transit, which have established a footprint globally, look at long-term solutions rather than one-off stop gap measures.

“Everything we do revolves around sustainability and giving back to society so that our future generations will have a better world to live in. The best part is, we can do this and remain profitable,” he said.

The group’s philanthropy arm Vinod Sekhar Foundation amplifies social capitalism through its community centric activities, aimed at lifting communities and assisting the most vulnerable of society through sustainable solutions, he added.

Vinod expressed hope that the award would pave the way for other business leaders around the world to be part of societal development and the circular economy by addressing wealth inequality impacting communities, and sustaining the environment while remaining profitable. – The Vibes, April 25, 2022
