KUALA LUMPUR – Sersol Bhd has signed a joint-venture (JV) agreement with Thailand’s private jet charter company Mjets Limited to expand its service to Malaysia and Indonesia.

This 50:50 joint venture will see the two companies offer aircraft charter services, ground handling services, aircraft management, and bringing in a new fleet of private jets into the two countries.

Sersol Group managing director Datuk Justin Lim said the company’s foray into aviation is part of its efforts to diversify its investment portfolio into various other sectors such as technology, sustainable energy, development, telecommunications and healthcare.

“We believe the private jet charter aviation sector offers a better opportunity to enter Malaysia and Indonesia’s aviation sector. There is increasing demand within differentiated market segments desiring safe and reliable travel options to ease travel complications,” he said during a press conference after the signing here today.

The JV signing was even witnessed by Melaka governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

MJets CEO Natthapatr Sibunruang said the JV will allow high-net-worth individuals access to a reliable, efficient, safe and overall better standard of flying.

“What we see is that there is no reliable operator to keep up with the demand in the country. What we plan to do is bring what we had done in Thailand and bring it over to Malaysia

“The whole country will benefit from this because private access is going to be much easier.”

Natthapatr also explained that demand for private jet charter has boomed, with a 30% increase compared to last year as many have opted to use such services as an efficient means to travel.

While the exact details of the JV are yet to be finalised, Lim said both companies are looking into Subang airport and Melaka as potential hubs for their services.

He is also currently the executive director at SMTrack Bhd, which also operates an aviation wing that offers air freight services.

Sersol is a homegrown investment holding company, headquartered in Johor.

Its principled business involves coatings, thinners, and industrial chemicals, with manufacturing plants in Johor and Thailand.
