KUALA LUMPUR – Google Malaysia has launched its new digital training programme, dubbed Gemilang, as a means to help Malaysians upskill themselves and earn Google career certificates.

Going a step further, Google Malaysia has also formed an employer consortium to connect graduates from Gemilang with potential job placements.

Speaking at the event launch at their headquarters here today, Google Malaysia managing director Marc Woo said more and more partners will be added to the consortium to enable Gemilang graduates to attain their ideal jobs.

“There are partners from various industries like banking and commerce, telecommunications, news organisations and transportation, and as I speak up here today, we’re still adding more partners.

“So, the pool of employers grows more and more, while the graduates will have a higher chance of landing the job of their dreams,” he said.

Current members of the consortium, in addition to Google, include Amanz, Carsome, Fave Asia, IPG Mediabrands, Jirnexu, Maybank, McDonald’s Malaysia, Omnicom Media Group, Petronas, REV Media Group, The Star Media Group, The Lorry, Storehub and Astro Awani.

The programme offers participants the opportunity to gain tech skills across six areas: data analytics, IT support, IT automation, project management, UX Design, and digital marketing & e-commerce.

“We’ve partnered with a global online education platform Coursera so you don’t need any prior experience.

“You don’t need any degree to undertake any of the six certifications, and each of these six certifications or curriculum has been curated and created by Google experts to equip learners with the right skills through hands-on training,” he said.

Understanding the plight of low-income earners, Google will also offer 31,000 Google Career Certificate scholarships through local partners including education institutions, industry partners and non-profits, said Woo.

Woo also announced that Google Cloud is also partnering with universities like Universiti Tenaga Nasional in offering the Google Cloud training curriculum to equip undergraduates with technical proficiency in cloud computing.

Woo further explained that Gemilang is done in line with Google Malaysia’s mission to support a more equitable and inclusive digital ecosystem. – The Vibes, July 21, 2022
