KUANTAN – The establishment of Pahang Corporation to facilitate the coordination and regulation of state government-linked companies (S-GLCs) was beneficial as state coffers have increased every year, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
He said since its establishment on March 21, 2019, the total contribution of S-GLCs in 2020 increased to RM38.6 million from RM12 million in the previous year, while RM50 million was received in 2021 and so far this year, contributions have reached RM60 million.
“The objectives were clear; we wanted to review the investment proposals in terms of returns and business risks, and monitor the performance of 40 subsidiaries in various economic sectors, as well as explore new sectors that promise better income returns.
“This included the green technology, digital economy, and utility infrastructure sectors. We will continue to ensure that these S-GLCs record excellent performance under the guidance of Pahang Corporation,” he said when winding up the debate on Pahang Budget 2023 at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
Wan Rosdy also added that the Pahang Enforcement Unit was set up not only to deal with the issue of state government revenue leaks, but it also plays an important role in conserving and protecting natural resources.
The state government has also worked in collaboration with the Malaysian Space Agency to develop a monitoring system using satellite data to analyse and detect land use activities in Pahang.
Besides that, Wan Rosdy said biodiversity resources were also being protected with the establishment of the Pahang State Parks Corporation and the Pahang State Biodiversity Council, and both these bodies also help oversee the eco-tourism sector.
On the move to improve water supply, Wan Rosdy said that one of the biggest infrastructure development projects in Pahang next year is related to water supply, which in total involves an allocation of over half a billion, to be implemented with the cooperation of various parties.
“The Pahang water agenda has several components including the implementation of a strategic plan to gradually solve water supply disruptions by building new infrastructure, repairing and upgrading existing infrastructure, reviewing tariffs and administrative efficiency, as well as strengthening water asset management,” he said.
After Pahang Budget 2023, presented last Friday, was approved unanimously at the sitting today, Wan Rosdy thanked everyone for their support and urged that all representatives stay calm and be mentally and emotionally prepared to face the 15th general election.
