Ringgit slightly higher on possible China border reopening, Bursa extends gains

KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today, supported by positive sentiment on China’s possible reopening of its borders and the rally of equities, said an analyst. 

At 9am, the local note rose to 4.7350/7390 from yesterday’s close of 4.7385/7420.

Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia extended yesterday’s gains to open higher today amid positive performance by regional peers, driven by continued buying interest in energy and transportation and logistics stocks, a dealer said.

At 9.06am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 0.68 of a point to 1,442.80 from yesterday’s close of 1,442.12.

The market bellwether opened 5.0 points firmer at 1,447.12.

On the broader market, gainers led decliners 162 to 96, while 218 counters were unchanged, 1,839 untraded, and nine others suspended.

Turnover stood at 168.82 million units worth RM43.16 million. – Bernama, November 8, 2022
