KOTA KINABALU – Two oil companies that previously defaulted on their state sales tax (SST)  have settled their dues, said Sabah Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He said Sea Hibiscus Sdn Bhd paid RM70.05 million while Repsol Oil and Gas Ltd paid RM9.36 million to settle their dues, amounting to a total of RM79.41 million last October 3.

“Repsol and Sea Hibiscus no longer have any outstanding dues.

“Both companies have now started paying their taxes,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Sabah Legislative Assembly here today.

He was responding to the question posed by appointed assemblyman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee.

According to Masidi, one more company is still in talks with the state over their unpaid sales tax, and the issue revolves around legal matters.

“However, the matter is now resolved this morning in court that both parties have agreed to settle the matter,” he said.

In June, Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd announced that its subsidiary, Repsol has discontinued its SST payment, while Sea Hibiscus did not pay any SST to the state. – The Vibes, December 1, 2022
