KUALA LUMPUR – India’s Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian chapter of the subregional cooperation initiative Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle joint business council (IMT-GT JBC).

The MoU, which was signed during the India Energy Week exhibition in Bengaluru, aims to promote the adoption of energy efficiency and sustainable practices in the region.

In a statement, IMT-GT said the strategic partnership will see EESL, a joint venture under India’s Power Ministry, providing technical advisory, project management support as well as contracting and implementation help to execute select energy efficiency programmes.

“EESL will collaborate with IMT-GT JBC Malaysia to identify opportunities for saving energy and lowering carbon emissions,” the statement said.

“Additionally, IMT-GT JBC Malaysia will identify other new interventions to achieve its targets under the Green City Action Plan 2022-2025 and assist EEDL for various sector-led negotiations while providing support for the successful roll-out of energy efficient projects in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.”

Besides that, EESL chief executive officer Vishal Kapoor said that the partnership will further promote sustainable growth across business and prioritise energy efficiency in the growth trajectory of cities under the council.

His thoughts were echoed by IMT-GT JBC Malaysia director Mahadi Mohamad, who expressed his excitement over the freshly signed agreement.

“Our partnership with EESL is a testament to our efforts to promote low carbon and climate resilient development powered by renewable sources as well as energy efficient measures,” he said.

He also noted that EESL’s expertise in streamlining energy efficiency and related practices in India had been well documented.

The MoU was signed by Vishal, Mahadi, and other dignitaries from IMT-GT and EESL, in the presence of the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia B.N. Reddy, as well as India’s Power Ministry additional secretary Ajay Tiwari. – The Vibes, February 6, 2023
