KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened lower today, taking its cue from Wall Street’s negative performance overnight amid cautious market sentiments, an analyst said.
At 9.06am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell by 1.65 points to 1,433.48 from Friday’s close of 1,435.13.
The barometer index opened 0.34 points lower at 1,434.79.
Market breadth was negative as decliners surpassed gainers 151 versus 122, while 274 counters were unchanged, 1,720 untraded, and 13 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 215.62 million units worth RM79.77 million.
Meanwhile, the ringgit eased against the US dollar today amid dovish market sentiments, which could affect regional central banks’ stance on monetary policies, said an analyst.
At 9.17am, the local note declined to 4.4090/4220 versus the greenback from Friday’s closing rate of 4.4000/4025. – Bernama, April 17, 2023
