THE United States Federal Court has entered the final phase of the high-profile criminal trial of hip-hop icon and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs, as 12 jurors begin deliberations over explosive allegations that he masterminded a criminal ring to sexually exploit women.
Various international news agencies have cited that Combs, 55, faces five serious federal charges including sex trafficking, prostitution, and organised criminal activity, following a seven-week trial that saw testimony from 34 witnesses and the submission of extensive records, including phone logs and financial transactions.
If found guilty, Combs could face a life sentence.
The prosecution alleges that Combs operated with impunity, claiming he coerced women into non-consensual sexual acts while they were under the influence of narcotics, and used his wealth and celebrity to shield himself from accountability.
“Sean Combs believed he was untouchable,” prosecutors told the court, accusing the defence of “distorting facts” and attempting to discredit victims who had “endured years of abuse.”
Two former partners of Combs are among the key witnesses, providing detailed accounts of alleged abuse. The defence, however, has painted a different picture.
Combs’ legal team maintains his innocence, asserting that his relationships with the women were entirely consensual and claiming that the two main accusers were financially motivated.
“He is a successful entrepreneur, not a criminal mastermind,” said his lawyer during closing arguments.
The jury's verdict is expected to have significant cultural reverberations, given Combs' stature in the music industry and the broader scrutiny of celebrity conduct in the post-#MeToo era. - June 30, 2025
