MARVEL Studios’ new and highly anticipated six-episode series 'Loki' launches today, June 9 exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar, featuring the mercurial God of Mischief on a thrilling cross-timeline journey as he steps out of his brother’s shadow. Take a look behind the scenes as we gear up for mischief and mayhem.

To celebrate the return of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) favourite villain, here are five glorious facts about the original series to get you started.

1. This is Loki as you’ve never seen

Starting from the moment in 'Avengers: Endgame' when the Loki of 2012 escapes with the Tesseract, the series takes viewers on a journey of self-discovery as we see different sides of the trickster as he’s taken down a few pegs and struggles to find his footing in the unforgiving bureaucracy of the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

2. 'Loki' is a crime thriller meets epic adventure

Arrested and captured by the TVA, Loki is drawn into helping investigate and solve a serious crime by a mysterious threat. Loki’s “unique perspective” is needed to locate the culprits and mend the timeline, spanning a six-episode arc that looks to break new ground for the MCU and lay the groundwork for things to come.

3. A new dynamic duo joins the fray

Partnering up with Loki is the TVA’s Agent Mobius, who is taking his biggest risk to date by working with the God of Mischief and trying to gain his trust. Whether they’re manipulating each other to serve their own purposes, the series will see both Loki and Mobius share significant scenes, building an interesting dynamic between the duo that Loki has never had in the past.

4. There’s humour, action, heart and spectacle

Following on the heels of 'WandaVision' and 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier', 'Loki' promises to deliver all that the MCU is known for and more. The tone of the show may surprise viewers, from the mischief and momentum that the character is known for to an emotional depth and breadth that also represents the extraordinary range of Loki himself, all contained in one epic story.

5. ‘Loki Lectures’ were part of creating the show

Tom Hiddleston, whose portrayal of Loki over the past decade has seen the character become a fan-favourite, shared his vast knowledge of the MCU and Loki’s place in it along with his relationships with other characters with the cast and crew of the series. “I started calling it the ‘Loki lecture’,” says director Kate Herron. “It was great to ground us all to make sure everyone was on the same page and working from the same angle.”

'Loki' sees Tom Hiddleston return as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs 'Loki,' and Michael Waldron is head writer.

Malaysians can stream new episodes every Wednesday on Disney+ Hotstar by subscribing to the service directly at DisneyPlusHotstar.my or via the Disney+ Hotstar app on Android and iOS devices, for RM54.90 for three months. – The Vibes, June 9, 2021
